The present station at Knaresborough replaced an
earlier one that was built in 1851. The later structure was designed by
the architect Thomas Prosser and was built in 1866 - it is now
classified as a listed building of Grade II status. the design is quite
characteristic off the architecture of the North Eastern Railway of the
period. In this particular case the structure is somewhat unusually
executed in white brick with segmental-arched door and window openings
and, at one end, a bay window surmounted by a frilly valance along the
eaves. the station buildings were extended at the eastern end in 1892.
Although the station is now un-manned, a variety of non-railway
businesses now occupy the building, which thankfully retains some of its
original internal features.
